Six injured in multi-vehicle crash on Hawke's Bay Expressway

Six people are in hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in Hawkes Bay.
Police said a truck and up to four other vehicles were involved in the crash on the Hawke's Bay Expressway in Napier around 8.20am on Monday.

Four ambulances attended and the expressway between Taradale and Meeanee roads was closed until after 11am.

A St Johns Ambulance spokesperson said three people were transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital one in a serious condition and two in moderate condition.

A Hawke's Bay District Health board spokesperson said six people two women in their 30s and 50s; and four men, one in his 60s and three in their 40s were being assessed in the hospitals emergency department.

It is the second serious crash within three days in Hawkes Bay, after a woman and child were involved in a serious crash on a remote road in Central Hawkes Bay on Friday.

Police said initial reports suggested a single car rolled on Porangahau Rd, Wallingford, between Bush Rd and Ugly Hill Rd, after 1pm.

The woman remains in a critical condition in Hawkes Bay Hospital, while the child who is younger than 5 has since been discharged.
